The Dust Enforcer
‘The Dust Enforcer’ is an investigation into the anthropocene using dust as a material signature. It is presented in a 3D printed mask, extrapolated from a point-cloud self- portrait scan, and a remote-sensed moving image developed in collaboration with architect and researcher Dr Asad Khan. The anthropocene denotes that human induced actions have generated an unprecedented impact on the Earth system. In particular, human emitted aerosols have increased the proliferation of dust in the atmosphere, whose scale and magnitude is imperceptible to human sight. The work shown here is a data-driven speculative scenario of a dust saturated Earth, by laser scanning the forces exerted by and imprinted on the author’s body through gestural movements. The process seeks to capture the notion of humans as a geological force, whose boundaries do not terminate at the skin, but measured by its planetary transformations.
